The following are items that are best to check when your Leviton Energy Monitoring Hub datalogger appears to have stopped uploading device data to its intended end point.
We recommend the person performing this check is someone who is responsible for or manages the LAN and internet connection on the site.
These are the items to be reviewed:
These are the settings that are needed which can be programmed into the unit:
With this information, someone can navigate the push buttons and LCD of the unit to confirm or reprogram these items. If you are using our A7810, A8810, or A8812 data logger and make a change, please make sure to reach the “(previous menu)” option and press select on it. On the A8814, click the "Back button". The unit will ask to reboot, and once you let it, it can then operate on the newly configured settings.
When our device is connected to LANs that are a basic internet connection similar to one at a home, the default settings will typically allow all outbound traffic.
On business and corporate LAN settings, there may be strict rules in place that block everything and only allow per set rule. For more on what ports may need to be opened for the EMH to work, please review our article "Commonly required LAN port traffic".

These are the items to be reviewed:
- Is the Ethernet LINK/ACT LED on the logger at least appearing ON or ideally, some blinks periodically
- Can they reach the web interface of the device using a web browser and a PC
- Start with a direct Ethernet cable between the PC and the EMH [lan settings may need to be changed to enable this]
- Can then test with the PC on the same LAN as the EMH [this may not be possible depending on the LAN; settings may need to be changed to enable this]
- If needed, then test connectivity from the PC across a different subnet to the EMH
- When logging into the device with a PC, can they run the connection test (Testing / Diags > Connection Test) to confirm the unit has internet connectivity
- Plug the LAN cable normally installed to the EMH and instead plug it into your PC. Turn off WIFI or any hotspot connection on your laptop. Can your PC reach various webpages on the internet with no issue?
These are the settings that are needed which can be programmed into the unit:
* DNS settings can be used as an alternative to the DHCP provided DNS servers. Temporarily turn off DHCP to edit the DNS IP fields, then turn DHCP back on. ** We encourage statically assigning an IP address to your EMH but whomever manages your LAN infrastructure and devices will be the best person to make the final decision on how best to set everything up for maximum reliability. |
