USB Memory Drive Recommendations

This article discusses use of USB memory sticks with our EMH models A7810, A8810, A8812, and A8814. For sensitive data on any type of computing device, it is always best to use multiple forms of data storage - this could be on local USB memory and to an offsite location, or to two different offsite locations.

When using USB memory sticks as one of those forms of data collection with our EMH product line, please use the following to ensure best compatibility and smooth long term operation.
  1. drive must be formatted as FAT32 and 1GB or less partition size
  2. SLC memory architecture
  3. Industrial temperature rating, if needed

Configuration is required to enable use of the USB drive with the EMH. Log into the EMH with your PC to enable the USB functionality and activate it.

Additional notes when using specific USB memory stick related features:
  • Xmem
    • do not remove the USB drive while the feature is running
  • USB Upload Channel
    • never remove the USB drive when the LCD screen says it is unsafe to do so
    • when the usb drive is activated, a special file is loaded on to the USB drive; if the file is later removed or the drive is formatted, it will requires reactivation in the EMH after being plugged back in
