This post applies to the A7810, A8810, and A8812 Leviton EMH and Obvius branded DAS products.
While all models of the above can be updated to run the latest firmware, care and consideration should be taken when firmware updating an older device to the latest firmware. Updating the firmware does not wipe the configuration of the device, but there are other items to consider:
In newer firmware, the configuration can be pulled by logging into the web interface of the device, heading to System > Backup/Restore, and creating a backup file. Your PC will get a downloaded file from the logger.
With older firmware, configuration must be manually pulled from the device via FTP. Log into the web interface of the data logger and go to Networking > Setup. You will need to enable the FTP service. If you do not see an options for setting FTP or TELNET, then your firmware has those already enabled.

- Updating older firmware may be more challenging, requiring the operator to be familiar with using applications like FTP and TELNET
- The latest firmware requires more baseline system resources
- Onboard flash storage of the device, depending on previous application, may now be considered "high mileage"
- Onboard flash storage may be completely full of data logs, which must be offloaded via FTP or to their upload destination(s) to make room for the updates
- A firmware update may not address a new issue if the device was working OK previously
