Purpose

This document discusses what devices are supported by the Leviton Energy Monitoring Hub line of data acquisition servers (A7810, A8810, A8812, A8814 and EMHXD). Support for these devices per the intent of this document denotes the ability for a data acquisition server to log data from a device. This document was formerly referred to as "Technote #23 - Supported Devices".

Protocols

Products with firmware version starting with v02 must have v02.21.0309 or later supports devices which adhere to the following protocols:
  • BACnet/IP
  • Modbus RTU [excluding the A7810]
  • Modbus TCP
  • Proprietary protocols
    • SMA (via USB to RS485 converter cable*)
    • Fronius (via Fronius USB to RJ45 converter*)
    • Advanced Energy / REFUsol (via USB to RS485 converter cable*)
*Not included with the Energy Monitoring Hubs

Products with firmware versioning starting with v04 (EMHXD only) must have v04.24.0226 or later which support devices via the following protocols:
  • BACnet/IP
  • BACnet MS/TP
  • Modbus RTU
  • Modbus TCP
Older firmware versions may not include the full capabilities listed above. An Energy Monitoring Hub can be updated to the latest firmware to support the latest in feature set. All DAS product firmware updates as of the date of this post are provided free-of-charge.

Device Support for the BACnet/IP protocol
Any BACnet compliant device is compatible with our line of data acquisition servers. The object types that are currently supported for data logging are:

Analog Input/Value/Output (AI/AV/AO)
Binary Input/Value/Output (BI/BV/BO)
Multi-State Input/Value (MSI/MSV/MSO)
Accumulator

BACnet supported BBIBs for logging: DS-RPM-A with fallback to DS-RP-A. Please note that segmentation is not supported.
For more information regarding the BACnet capabilities of our data acquisition server, please refer to the firmware release notes or our BACnet users guide document.

Device Support for Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and proprietary protocols
The attached PDF lists the specific Modbus and proprietary protocol devices that our data acquisition servers are compatible with. Compatibility implies that we have a built-in driver which will know the main datapoints of the device and be able to poll that information without any manual mapping required. Devices not listed must be mapped manually using the framework template editor built into the web interface of every data acquisition server. Contact Leviton for templates we may have on file.

Depending on the application, additional datapoints may be required that the built-in driver does not pull. To read datapoints that our driver doesn’t provide, a framework template can be created to map the points of interest. To reduce the number of datapoints, the same method can be applied, or use our virtual meters function in the editor to create a device with a subset of the datapoints from the built-in driver. Selective device upload under Log File Data > Setup / Upload can then be used to only have the limited data set virtual device be logged and uploaded to one or multiple channels.

A similar version of this list can be found in the web interface of a data acquisition server by browsing to Device > Device List > “List all supported devices”. This can be used as a reference on Energy Monitoring Hubs with older firmware to see what devices were compatible with that release.
