This article applies to the EMH models A7810, A8810, A8812, A8814. This applies to the EMHXD as well but will have minor difference in the names of the locations, buttons, and where noted, functionality.

Need to take a copy of one template in one EMH to use in another?
  1. Browse to Devices > Templates
  2. Click to highlight the template in question.
  3. Press the "Save As" button to download the .mbt file to your PC.
*File names for the template are sensitive - if you do edit these on your PC, avoid lengthy names, special characters, and spaces.

Need to copy all the templates in one EMH to use in another?
  1. In the donating EMH, browse to System > Backup / Restore
  2. Click "Create Backup"
  3. In the receiving EMH, browse to the same location.
  4. Check the checkbox for "Meter Templates", then click Apply.
  5. Now click "Have Disk", and use this to load the backup file into the unit.
*EMHXD only allows for cloning the entire configuration of a device to another

Need to load a template into an EMH?
  1. Browse to Devices > Templates. Review the list to ensure the template doesn't already exist.
  2. To load a template into the device, press "Have Disk", and use that tool to upload the template into the unit

How do I apply a template file to a device in the EMH?
  1. If the templates are for Modbus devices, browse to Modbus > Setup. Turn off "Search for Modbus devices". Click Apply.
  2. Browse to Devices > Device List.
    1. Remove any instances of the device that you want to replace with using the template file mapping
      • For devices in Unknown status (handle these first!)
        • Skip to step 2 below.
      • For one or few devices that are status OK or ERROR:
        • Click into the device. Note at the top the device ID#, real bus address (if applicable), and IP address and port (if applicable)
        • Scroll to the bottom of the page.
        • If there is a Remove button, click it.
        • If no remove button, click the Configure button, scroll again to the bottom of the page, then click Remove.
      • Pro tip: For removing many instances of devices from the device list quickly
        • Click the "rename all devices link" and blank out all the names of the devices you want to remove. Now click Save.
        • Browse to System > Status, then click Reboot and allow the unit to do so. They will no longer appear.
    2. Manually add the devices back in or configure the unknown status device
      • Under Device Type, make sure to select the template you loaded. All templates will be listed at the top of the drop-down menu for your convenience.
      • Configure any other remaining settings that are necessary for the EMH to reach the device.
      • Click "Create Configuration" once completed.
    3. Browse to the Devices > Device List, and confirm the device goes to status OK, and that the live readings are appearing as expected.

Additional template notes:
For best template compatibility, please ensure the firmware on your EMH is updated to the latest version.
