Yup it's true.....our project requirements require us to Install our My Building software product at your facility.

STOP! If you are using Leviton's My Building infrastructure located at myBuilding.Leviton.com, none of this article applies to you and you can ignore it. This only applies if you purchased the My Building software to be installed at your facility.

What's My Building you say? Check out these helpful articles to learn more about it:

Often, we are supplying My Building software on computer that is shipped to your job and installed either in our rack or you're equipment rack. We buy our computers form Superlogics and image them in our Tualatin, OR, facility. Most of the time they are shipped pre-configured ready to go but sometimes we also configure them onsite. If you'd prefer to install on your hardware, or, on a VM, we can make this shift. Please work through the appropriate channels and so long as the change made before we start work, we can make the change at no charge. Setting up a VM will require remote access to the computer so our devops engineers can get in and get the work done. Alternatively, we'll give you setup instructions and you can do it on your own. Our field tech will need it setup and ready to go when they get on site.

System Architecture

There are only a few decision points here, we just need to know what direction you want to go:
  • Single Network: All of the lighting controls devices and the My Building server are on the same network and accessed by both users, lighting control devices, and the BACnet/HVAC automation controller. This is the simplest architecture.
  • Multi-Homed networked: In this network architecture, the lighting devices are on their own isolated network. All of them however need access to the server hosting My Building. Internet access is not required however it's helpful if this network has internet access available during the commissioning phase. The server has (2) network ports so this architecture is easy to achieve.
    • For user-friendliness, a static DNS entry should entered with the sever name it's FQDN from both sides of the network. Ex: if your computer will be accessed from the user side using LevitonMyBuilding.favoriteSchool.edu, the enter a static address with that FQDN and appropriate ip address that the lighting control network can access. If Leviton provides the network architecture, we will do this.
    • The BACnet/HVAC automation controller can exist on either network, we just need to know which one.

Here's what we need from you to get started:
DescriptionImplicationValue
System Architecture OptionImpacts how we setup the serverdefault: Single Network
Virtual or Leviton HardwareIf your BOM has Leviton hardware, we can change to virtual for no impact to project cost anytime before equipment is installed.
Fully Qualified Domain Name of the My Building Serverhow the sever is accessed, for simplicity, must be resolvable from the controls and user access side of the networkdefault: myBuilding.LevitonControls.lan
If Leviton provides the Wi-Fi architecture, preferred domain name.If Leviton provides the network, and you prefer we use yours, that's also our preference. We can make the change now. default: LevitonControls.lan
SSID, PassphraseIf customer provides the Wi-Fi architectureSSID:

Passphrase:
SMTP ServerUsed for email notifications, account validation, etc.SMTP Server Name:
SMTP Portdefault:25
SMTP Username
SMTP Password
SMTP From Email Addressdefault: noreply@mybuilding.levitoncontrols.lan
SMTP Namedefault: Leviton My Building
BACnet Portdefault: 47808
BACnet Access LocationWhere will bacnet enter the network? What connected will it be connected to? Will it be the same network as the room controllers ordefault: Same location as site users
BACnet ObjectsThe type of objects that will be exposed to BACnet. See PICS statements for list of all available objects.default: Occupancy Zones
Server: http or https? If httpsAre Lets Encrypt certificates suitable? If so, the machine will need
  • Public DNS resolvable host name
  • Accessibility from the internet for domain ownership validation
    • What email address should be used for the Lets Encrypt certificate?
    • What should auto-renewal time be? We default to 3am
If not, certificates will need to be provided
default: If internet accessible (inbound), https with Lets Encrypt, renewing at 3am. If not internet access, http.
Remote Access CredentialsProvide VPN or otherwise. If Leviton is providing Wi-Fi infrastructure, and our network router/coordinator (Unifi Dream Machine) has internet access, we will have this automatically. Our access can be revoked at any time by removing our user accounts from the Dream Machine.
