PhaseChek is a valuable diagnostic tool designed to provide a quick assessment of meter programming and physical installation. While it’s effective at identifying potential issues that warrant further investigation, it’s important to understand that PhaseChek is not intended to serve as a definitive validation of installation accuracy. Instead, it should be viewed as a spot check only when specific conditions exist.

What PhaseChek Does — and Doesn’t Do​

  • ✅ Helps confirm an installation if the right testing conditions exist
  • ✅ Flags a possible inconsistency in meter setup and wiring
  • ❌ Is not intended to guarantee a perfect installation
  • ❌ Should not replace a thorough physical installation or reverification

Optimizing PhaseChek Performance​

To ensure PhaseChek delivers meaningful results, the meter must be correctly programmed for the current transformers (CTs) it’s connected to. Once this prerequisite is met, the test can be re-run under the following conditions to improve accuracy:
  • Minimum Load Threshold: The connected load should draw at least 1% of the CT’s maximum amperage.
  • Resistive Load Preference: A highly resistive load yields the most reliable results. Be cautious with motors operating at low speed or capacity — they can distort readings even when wiring is correct.
