Why do I need all the bandwidth of Category 6? Nothing in my house requires 200 MHz of bandwidth.

Bandwidth comes before data rates just like freeways come before traffic. Adding more bandwidth is like adding more lanes on a highway. If you look at how the demand for bandwith has grown over the past few years you would see it has doubled every 17 months . Applications running at 1 Gbs are pushing the limits of Cat5e system. The need for faster data rates will grow as things like streaming video and multi media applications are used more and more. Applications that will benefit from the higher bandwidth offered by Category 6 will become the new norm . Cabling infrastructure is generally considered a 10 year investment .Cat6 is quickly becoming the baseline standard for cabling in newly constructed homes so as to ready for the future bandwith needs.
