Straight blade devices are non-locking devices. Pressure exerted by the blades keep the plug inside the receptacle/connector. Straight blade devices are offered in two versions: polarized and non-polarized. A polarized device has current-carrying blades/contacts of different sizes.  Polarization ensures that current flows through the correct wire, which makes the lamp or appliance safer.
