When there are only two wires in a box, the white insulated wire should be the line and the black insulated wire the load. So, you might try reversing the connections.
By the way, the reason that the white wire is the line is so that where the cable is connected to the light fixture there will be one black and one white wire to match the colors at the fixture. Otherwise, if the cable to the switch was connected so that the black wire was the line there would be two white wires at the fixture. I could write more about this, but the information above should be enough to get you started.
Please be careful, electricity kills.
I have the same issue...only two wires: a black and a yellow. The Leviton has white, blue, black, and of course green.
so based on what was written above, "the white insulated wire should be the line and the black insulated wire the load", how should I proceed? What wires do I connect to the black? Which wires should be connected to the yellow?
I do ground the Levton (green to a screw on the box).
I am vey careful and turn off all power...i just need some help. Thanks.
