What is a MAC address?

The address for a device as it is identified at the Media Access Control (MAC) layer in a computers internal network architecture . MAC address is usually stored in ROM on the network adapter card and is unique to each computer. Because it is unique the process of "cloning your MAC address" when trouble shooting your router will help the two devices to recognize each other so that a network/connection can be established.
