Cat 6 wire is a 23 gauge four pair wire. Cat 6 is rated at speeds of up to 10 Gbps at 100 feet after 100 feet this drops to 1000 Mbps or 1 Gbps. Cat 6 generally has a plastic core keeping the proper twists in the pairs to assure transmission.
