For safety, the switch is designed to prevent the possibility of making or breaking the connection under load. The switch cannot be turned to the “ON” position unless a plug is fully engaged with the receptacle. Once turned on, the plug is locked in place and cannot be removed until the switch is moved to the “OFF” position.
